Referring someone for home care

Most of the families we care for found us by word of mouth. If you know someone who needs help at home, as a friend, a neighbor, or a professional, here’s how to refer them and what happens next.

Licensing and caregiver screening

How to refer someone

Call (858) 380-9599 or email love@pendaseniorhomecare.com. During office hours we respond within a couple of hours. Office hours: Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Outside those hours, leave a voicemail or send an email and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

What helps us move quickly

  • The person’s name, and who to call: them, or a family member
  • The address where care is needed
  • What has changed: a fall, a hospital stay, a new diagnosis, or a family carer who can’t keep going
  • When help needs to start, including a discharge date if there is one
  • The language the person is most comfortable in
  • How care will be paid for, if you know: privately, long-term care insurance, or VA benefits

Please don’t email medical records

Email isn’t secure. Send the basics by phone or email. If we need records, we’ll arrange a safer way to receive them.

What happens after you refer someone

  1. We contact the person or their family and ask what’s happening at home.
  2. We visit the home for a free consultation and write a care plan.
  3. Care usually starts the same day as the consultation.

If home care isn’t the right fit, for example because the person needs skilled nursing, we’ll say so and suggest where to look instead.

Who home care fits

We provide non-medical care: help with bathing, dressing, the bathroom, meals, housekeeping, rides, company, and supervision for people living with dementia. Visits are at least four hours, and care is available around the clock.

Our caregivers don’t give injections, change wound dressings, or manage IVs. When someone needs that as well, a home health agency and a home care agency work well side by side.

Checking us out first

Licensed by the California Department of Social Services as a Home Care Organization, license #374700397. The agency is owned by Mildred Kiminyei, RN, a registered nurse who supervises every caregiver. Caregivers are our employees, are registered on California’s Home Care Aide Registry, and speak English, Spanish, Tagalog, and Swahili.

We serve Chula Vista and communities across San Diego County. Rates run from $40 to $48 an hour, and the details are on paying for care.

Common questions

Can I refer someone without asking them first?

You can tell us about someone you’re worried about, but we arrange care only with the person themselves or whoever makes decisions for them. The easiest way is to give the family our number, or ask whether we may call them.

How fast can care start?

Usually the same day as the consultation. For a hospital discharge, call as soon as a date is set.

Does the family pay for the consultation?

No. The in-home consultation is free, and there’s no obligation to start care.

Request a free in-home consultation

Tell us what’s going on and we’ll call you back to talk it through and set up a visit at the home. The consultation is free.

If it’s urgent, call instead of using the form.
