Rancho Santa Fe
Home care in Rancho Santa Fe
In Rancho Santa Fe, homes sit on large lots, often behind gates and at the end of long private drives. That privacy is why people live there. With age, it also means neighbors are far away and so is everything else.

Large properties, long distances
Many Rancho Santa Fe homes are big, single-owner estates with separate guest quarters. In a large house, a fall in a far bedroom can go unnoticed for hours if someone lives alone. Stores, pharmacies, and doctors are a drive away on roads without sidewalks, so losing the ability to drive is a bigger change here than almost anywhere in the county.
Guest quarters make live-in care practical in a way it isn’t in a two-bedroom condo: the caregiver has their own space and your parent keeps their privacy.
Gates, private roads, and directions
Give us gate codes and clear directions before the first shift. Some Rancho Santa Fe properties sit on private roads that are easy to miss and not always where a phone map says they are. Tell us where to park, which door to use, and about any dogs or staff on the property.
Rancho Santa Fe is unincorporated and is patrolled by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. If your parent has dementia, register them with the Sheriff’s free Take Me Home program.
Rancho Santa Fe Senior Center
The Rancho Santa Fe Senior Center, at 16780 La Gracia, has served the area since 1988. It offers resource information, family support, classes, health outreach, and social activities. There’s no membership fee, and you don’t have to live in Rancho Santa Fe to use it. The center sits in a 1923 building designed by Lilian Rice, the architect behind the village’s original look.
Hospitals near Rancho Santa Fe
The closest hospitals are Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas, Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, and Palomar Medical Center Escondido. Each is a 15- to 25-minute drive, which is one more reason to have a plan for getting to appointments once your parent stops driving.

Common questions
Can a caregiver live in the guest house?
Often, yes. A private space for the caregiver is one of the things live-in care requires. We’ll look at the setup during the consultation and go over how live-in schedules and breaks work.
My father has household staff already. Does home care still make sense?
Yes. Housekeepers and groundskeepers look after the property. A caregiver looks after him: bathing, dressing, meals, medication reminders, and noticing changes in his health.
